Grinny's Birthday

There was lot of excitement in Ripple-o-Fripple Land.Grinny the Elf had invited all the inhabitants in Ripple-O-Fripple Land for his birthday.Grinny as the name suggests had a mouth that stretched on the corners and his eyes always wrinkled whether he spoke or smiled or laughed.He was a tiny elf indeed,and if Teenie,his neighbour was not tinier,Grinny would have been the tiniest elf in Ripple-O Fripple.Grinny got up very early that day,grinning from ear to ear.He quickly wore his soft green slippers and a dark green cloak and peered out of the window.It was a happy morning indeed.The sky was clear blue,the breeze was cool,without being chilly and the grass and trees were green and glistening with chrystal like dew drops."I wish I could fly like butterflies and hop on those dew drops and slide on them",said Grinny to himself.He had always been a very fanciful elf and often dreamt about things that were never heard of in any Elfland.Just then,Grinny felt that a particular blade of grass glistened more brightly than others.He peered closely and noticed something moving inside.He ran out of his cottage,almost stepping on Curly Worly the worm.

As Grinny approached the dew drop,he heard a whisper as if coming from inside the dewdrop.He knelt near the dew and noticed that it was much too big for a dew.He felt as if his head was reeling as if he were on a mary go round.The more he peered,the more lightheaded he felt,till he fell into a slumber.

When Grinny opened his eyes,he felt something rather wet and slippery under him.It was very bright around,almost blinding.As he lifted his lids he saw two little creatures almost like a butterfly the size of his thumb hovering over him."Look at his ears",said one of them."Look at his chin.It is as sharp as Streamy's whiskers",said another.Now Grinny was wide awake and confused on how he landed in that queer little place in the first place."You peered yourself into our land",came a voice from some distance.Grinny got up with a jerk,and saw another bigger butterfly like creature trotting near him."Can you read my thoughts?And how can one peer onself into something?No,first tell me,what is this place and who are you?What are your names?".

"My name is Quishy,these are the twins,Wishy and Washy.We are fairybuts and this place is called fairybut Land.We live like butterflies and have the magical powers of fairies.I know that you are Grinny the elf,and that today is your birthday",said Quishy the fairybut."But how do you know my name and where i live?"exclaimed Grinny.Washy answered,"The Fairybut Landers love birthdays and celebrations much more.On your birthday,if you peer hard enough into a dew Fairybut Land,you will land right inside.Do not be afraid of us"."Yes Yes,do not be afraid of us",echoed Wishy.Wishy and Washy always echoed the last words said by the other.

"We can arrange for you to be sent back if you wish to,or you can join us to celebrate your birthday",said Wavy ,another fairybut who had just joined the others.By now Grinny was very excited and not scared even a wee bit."Oh!How kind of you.I will love to stay",said Grinny with a wide grin on his face.At this all excliamed together,"Yippee...Yuppiee...Yooo...To the Party we all go".

And from there they wen to a large hall which was decorated with what seemed like light bulbs filled with snow .There were about 15 Fairybuts gathered around a huge 3 tiered cake .Each had a Giftwrapped box in their hands.As Grinny approcahed them,all sang in unison
"Happy Birthday,its a Happy Birthday in Fairybut Land.
Grinny the elf has a grinny granny face with hair of color sand.
Fairybuts sing Granny the elf a merry morry birthay song
And a dewy droppy song,and a hippy happy song ,to last his life long"

And thus they sang till their voices grew hoarse,and Grinny's mouth ached from grinning too much.They, then cut the cake and splashed some on Grinny.The last and the best part of the party were the presents.Grinny thanked each one of them profusely for their kindness.He could not wait to open the boxes.He wondered what magic and wonder lay within them.Lost in his thoughts,Grinny heard a voice,it seemed Teenie's."Wake up o Birthday elf.Or are you going to sleep away your grand day?"Grinny opened his eyes and lo and behold!He had been dreaming indeed.He was in his own cottage,in his own bed and there were no fairybuts around and no birthday cake either.But as he looked around,Grinny found that the table was laden with a heap of brightly coloured boxes,like the ones in his dream.Wait,Or was it a dream?

Grinny till today,on every birthday of his peers into each and every dew drop he comes across,with the hope that this might be the fairy but land.He still doesnt know if he had indeed been there and if he was just dreaming,how did the presents come in his house when none of the elves had given it to him.Do you know?
